Electric Pickling Pickling is the immersion of metals in an acid solution, for the purpose of removing surface fire scale and oxides caused by heating, annealing, casting, soldering, etc. Sulfuric acid is sometimes used, but substitutes are shown. The pickle solution works better if heated to a temperature of approximately 125° F (52° C).
